Joined by representatives from Unison South East, the signing took place in Malling House and will see the force work in partnership with Unison who are committed to tackling racism in public services, improving racial equality, diversity and inclusion.

In 2022, the national Police Race Action Plan (PRAP) was launched, which refers to the course of action we are taking to address the disproportionality we see in our policing of Black communities.

As we continue to proactively disrupt accepted behaviours and implement positive practices to become a police service which is anti-racist, our signing of the Charter represents our latest step in creating an internal culture that promotes inclusivity.

Workstream 1, as outlined within our PRAP priorities, focuses on improving the recruitment and progression of those from diverse backgrounds at every level of the force, where Black, Asian and Global Majority officers and staff are being supported in their development and progression.

As we transform our organisation for the better, it is hugely important that we reflect the communities we serve. With the support of Unison, we will continue to regularly review strategies to promote a diverse workforce, bringing difference and wider perspectives into the organisation.

ACO Grant says, "We are incredibly proud to be the first public sector employer in the South East to sign the Charter. We look forward to working alongside Unison in tackling racism within the public sector and championing a racially diverse workforce."
